Description
Xerocomellus are unique fungi belonging to the broader family of boletes. They typically feature a suede-like surface that can be mottled or cracked, especially when dry. Often found in symbiotic relationships with trees, they help support forest ecosystems. Some species in this group display striking color changes when their flesh is cut or bruised. The pores underneath the cap are sponge-like, setting them apart from gilled mushrooms.
