Habitat of Zeller's bolete
The zeller's bolete can be found in coniferous forests, and sometimes with hardwoods. It forms symbiotic relationships with tree roots, exchanging vital nutrients with hosts such as the Douglas fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii). Fruitbodies will be found popping up from the soil beneath a host tree. Interestingly, this mushroom is also found beneath redwoods, which are not known to accept these symbiotic relationships.
