Are Chlorophyllum rhacodess toxic?
Are Chlorophyllum rhacodess toxic?
There are many edible and widely cultivated mushrooms in the Agaricaceae family, but there are also many toxic ones. For example, yellow-staining mushroom (Agaricus xanthodermus) and some other members of its genus have been found to cause severe stomach problems to part of the population when eaten. Not only that, but there are also deadly poisonous mushrooms in this family, such as deadly dapperling (Lepiota brunneoincarnata) and some members of its genus. Alpha-amanitin is present in deadly dapperling which can incur nausea and vomiting in about 10 hours after ingestion, and cause liver damage after a few days, and death in severe cases. Deaths from consuming this mushroom have occurred in Spain, Iran, and a few other countries. Deadly dapperling can be easily confused with some edible mushrooms, so when you find such mushrooms, do not collect or eat them. If you experience discomfort after ingesting them, seek medical help as soon as possible.
