Scientific name: Saproamanita
Description
Saproamanita is a unique group of fungi that differs from the closely related Amanita genus by being saprophytic rather than ectomycorrhizal. This means that saproamanita species obtain nutrients by decomposing organic matter instead of forming symbiotic relationships with trees. These fungi resemble Amanitas, featuring a cap , free gills, a central stem and a ring. Below the ring, you can find scales and rings, which are remnants of the universal veil. Saproamanita typically inhabits grasslands, lawns, pastures, fens, and fields, where they play a crucial role in nutrient cycling and decomposition.
