Description

Paxillaceae is a family of mushroom-like fungi. A distinguishing feature of the species in this family is recurrent gills. Recurrent means *extending lengthwise down the stem* and describes the way that these gills continue down the mushroom's stem. This family also goes by the name *gyrodonaceae*, given to it in 1951 by the Belgian botanist Paul Heinemann.
