Description
Spike-caps are a group of mushrooms known for their distinctive thick, slimy caps and unusual spore print color, which appears purplish gray to black. They often have a funnel-shaped cap and grow in association with conifer trees. One peculiar trait of spike-caps is their gill structure, which extends partway down the stem. They typically appear in forested areas across North America and Europe during the fall season. Their unique features make spike-caps easily recognizable among mycologists and mushroom enthusiasts.
