Description

Cordycipitaceae is not for the squeamish, since this family of parasitic fungi gradually colonizes and kills insects, feeding on their dead bodies. Some species affect their host by changing its behavior so that it is more likely to spread to other insects. However, this insect-killing ability gives these fungi great potential for controlling crop pests and research is ongoing to harness them for this purpose.
