Description
Akanthomyces is a group of fungi known for their parasitic nature, primarily targeting insects and other arthropods. They often produce long, slender structures called synnemata, which bear spores. Some species in this group can dramatically alter the behavior of their insect hosts, leading to what's known as "zombie ant" phenomena. Akanthomyces plays a role in natural pest control in various ecosystems.
