Polyporus er sopp kjent for sine unike hylleformede fruktlegemer som ofte vokser på trestammer og falne stokker. Disse organismene har vanligvis en porøs underside, som er avgjørende for spredning av sporer. De spiller en essensiell rolle i skogsøkosystemer ved å bryte ned trevirke og bidra til næringsstoffsykling.
