Description

Xerocomus is a group of fungi mostly found in woodland areas, often forming mycorrhizal relationships with trees, helping them absorb nutrients. These mushrooms usually have spongy, porous undersides instead of gills and display a variety of cap colors, ranging from yellow to brown. Some species in this group bruise blue or green when damaged, which can be a fascinating sight. They typically appear in late summer to autumn.
