Description
Rock-shield lichen is a type of lichen often found growing on rocks in dry, sunny environments. This lichen is part of a group well-known for its distinctive yellow-green color, which comes from the presence of specific pigments. Rock-shield lichen plays an important role in its ecosystem by helping to break down rocks into soil and provides a habitat for small invertebrates. Some species within this group have unique compounds with potential medicinal properties.
