Description

Steccherinaceae are wood-decaying fungi found in many parts of the world. They often grow on dead or dying trees, contributing to the decomposition process in forests. Many species in this group have tooth-like or spine-like structures on their undersides instead of gills or pores. Some steccherinaceae can cause white rot in wood, breaking down both lignin and cellulose components.
