Sarcogyne lichens is a group of crustose lichens often found on rocks or soil. They are known for their thick, warty or smooth thalli that can be various colors including gray, brown, or reddish. Some species in this group have a unique feature of sunken fruit bodies (apothecia) that appear as small dark dots on the surface of the lichen.
