Description

Ragged lichen is a lichen known for its sheet-like, often lobed appearance, making it look somewhat ragged or torn at the edges. Found primarily in temperate forests, ragged lichen thrives on tree bark and rock surfaces. It contributes to the ecosystem by breaking down rocks into soil and providing habitats for small invertebrates. Some species within ragged lichen are highly sensitive to air pollution, making them useful indicators of environmental health.
