Description
Hypogymnia is a lichen known for its unique hollow lobes, which can be inflated like tiny balloons. These lobes often look like tiny tubes or sausages. They primarily grow on tree bark in forests and are highly sensitive to air quality, making them valuable indicators of environmental health. Some species within this group are also remarkable for their ability to withstand very harsh climates, from arctic tundra to alpine regions.
