Description

Cryptomarasmius is a group of tiny fungi found in tropical and temperate forests. They grow on dead leaves and small twigs on the forest floor. These mushrooms are known for their unique cap structure, which can expand and contract based on moisture levels. Some species have caps less than 2 mm (0.08 in) in diameter, making them among the smallest known mushrooms.
