Description
Clitocella is a fascinating group of fungi known for their small to medium-sized fruiting bodies, typically found in forested areas. These mushrooms have caps with centrally placed stipes (stems) and gills that are decurrent, meaning they run down the stem. The gills are closely crowded together with a smooth edge. Often buried in grass, they can be easily overlooked. Their gregarious nature means they often grow in groups, contributing to nutrient cycling and decomposition within their ecosystems.
