Description
Horsehair lichens are fascinating lichens that often form dark, hair-like strands hanging from tree branches. They thrive in clean, unpolluted air, making them excellent indicators of air quality. These lichens are incredibly resilient and can survive in harsh conditions, such as extreme cold and high altitudes. One species, Bryoria fremontii, was historically used by Indigenous peoples for various purposes, including weaving and as a part of traditional medicine.
