Description

The fungi genus trichaptum was defined (or circumscribed) in 1904 by the American mycologist William Alphonso Murrill. Classifying fungi is notoriously difficult and molecular studies were required to confirm that this genus belongs in the order Hymenochaetales. Once classified under the family Polyporaceae, trichaptum now falls under Incertae sedis. Many of the fungi in this genus live on rotting wood.
