Syzygites is a rare fungal group known for its unique reproductive structures. It forms distinctive zygospores when compatible strains meet. These fungi are often found on decaying mushrooms, particularly boletes. They can rapidly colonize their host, covering it with a fluffy white growth. Syzygites plays a role in the decomposition process of forest ecosystems.
