Stigmella is a genus of fungi within the phylum Ascomycota, known for parasitizing plants in the Fagaceae family, particularly oaks (Quercus species). These fungi cause distinctive leaf spots on their host plants, which are characterized by the presence of hypophyllous pycnidia—fruiting bodies that form on the underside of the leaves. The leaf spots created by stigmella can impact the health and growth of the host plants.
