The group of fungi known as shotgun fungus is so named because of the star-like formation of their 'petals.' These petals have an amazing function since the fungus uses them to change its position so that it can best distribute spores. These fungi all have a bloated central sac full of dry spores which are expelled from the sac to propagate.
