Description

Sistotrema is a diverse group of fungi known for their role as white-rotting saprotrophs. Most species within this group are found on highly decayed wood and the bark of dead branches, where they contribute to the decomposition process and nutrient cycling. The fruiting bodies of sistotrema can be crust-like or partially crust-like with edges that turn outward, and their surfaces can be smooth, wrinkled, or covered with tiny spines or pores, depending on the species.
