Description
The fungi of the sarcosomataceae family are saprobic, which means that they take their nutrition by decomposing other organic matter, usually rotten or undersoil wood. You are most likely to see sarcosomataceae growing on rotting wood in late spring and early summer, and you can recognize them by their dark brown or black color and bulbous cup shape.
