Description

Polycoccaceae is a family of fungi that live on lichens. These fungi are unique because they parasitize lichens without forming their own lichen structures. They have tiny, brown spores and unique thick-walled spores that often have interesting surface patterns. The family includes two genera: Clypeococcum and Polycoccum, with Polycoccum being the more species-rich.
