Scientific name: Microcaliciaceae
Description
Microcaliciaceae are tiny, pin-like fungi found on tree bark and wood. They have a unique spore-dispersal mechanism, using a powdery mass of spores called mazaedium. These fungi are often overlooked due to their small size, typically less than 1 mm (0.04 in) tall. Some species in this group can be indicators of old-growth forests and air quality.
