Description

Laboulbeniomycetes are unique parasitic fungi that primarily infect insects and other arthropods. They form tiny, often microscopic structures on their hosts' exoskeletons. Many laboulbeniomycetes are highly host-specific, evolving alongside particular insect species. Unlike most fungi, they don't penetrate deeply into their host's body, instead drawing nutrients through a small opening in the exoskeleton.
