Description
Kretzschmaria are fascinating fungi known for their role as wood-decay organisms, particularly their ability to decompose hardwoods. Often found in tropical and subtropical regions, they form dark, crust-like fruiting bodies on tree trunks and branches. One of the most intriguing aspects is their resilience, as they can easily adapt to urban environments, sometimes causing tree hazards. Their mycelium often appears white and cottony, enabling efficient wood breakdown.
