Description
Hymenochaetopsis are a group of fungi commonly found on decaying hardwoods. They play an important role in breaking down tough plant materials like lignin, helping recycle nutrients back into the ecosystem. Most species within this group form thin, crust-like structures on the surface of wood. While typically found in forests, hymenochaetopsis can also thrive in urban areas where sufficient decayed wood is present.
