Description

Hydropunctaria is a group of marine lichens that grow on rocks in coastal areas. These lichens are adapted to survive in harsh intertidal environments, enduring regular submersion in seawater. They form small, dark-colored crusts on rock surfaces and play a role in the weathering of coastal rocks. Some species in this group can withstand high levels of salt and UV radiation.
