Description
Gomphaceae has a branched structure with up to eight branches that all stand upright and nearly parallel. The branches come to a point and are thorn-like in appearance. The overall appearance of the fruit body is bushy and medium-sized, approximately 10 cm by 7 cm. The stem may be single or branching from the base, and features white mycelium and rhizomorphs that radiate from the base. The odor of the plant is similar to anise, while the taste is bitter. Although some sources describe it as edible but unpalatable, others classify the species as inedible.
