Description
Gloeophyllales are a group of brown rot fungi that primarily decompose wood, particularly in buildings and other wooden structures. They are unique because they can break down the cellulose in wood, but they leave behind the lignin, which makes the wood brown and brittle. Some of these fungi have gill-like structures on their undersides that are unusual for wood-decaying fungi. They are often found in dry, indoor environments where they can cause significant wood decay.
