Description
Fomitiporia are wood-decaying fungi that often inhabit old trees, both living and dead. They play an important role in forest ecosystems by breaking down tough wood tissues, recycling nutrients. Some species are known for their resilience and can live for many years, slowly decomposing heartwood. Intriguingly, these fungi can form large, long-lasting fruiting bodies that can persist on trees for years, giving them an ancient, weathered appearance.
