Description

Fomitiporella is a wood-decaying fungus that forms hard, perennial fruiting bodies on trees. It typically grows on hardwoods, causing white rot decay. The fruiting bodies are often black or dark brown, with a crusty or velvety surface. Some species in this group have pores that are barely visible to the naked eye. Fomitiporella plays an important role in forest ecosystems by breaking down dead wood.
