Description
Elaphomyces are underground fungi that form round, truffle-like structures. They have a thick, warty outer layer and powdery spore mass inside. Many animals, including deer and rodents, dig them up to eat. Some elaphomyces species form beneficial relationships with tree roots, helping them absorb nutrients. They play important roles in forest ecosystems.
