Description

Austropuccinia is known for its role as a plant pathogen, causing significant damage in agriculture. One notable species in this group, Austropuccinia psidii, leads to the disease commonly called 'myrtle rust,' which attacks plants from the myrtle family. This rust forms bright yellow spores and primarily spreads through wind. It's a major concern for biodiversity as it affects a wide range of plant hosts and can severely impact forest ecosystems and commercial plantations.
