Description

Ascodichaena is a genus of fungi that forms distinctive dark, elongated or branched markings on tree bark. These markings resemble scribbles or hieroglyphics, giving rise to their common nickname. They are often found on smooth-barked trees like beech and hornbeam. While they grow on the bark surface, ascodichaena does not harm the tree itself.
