Description

Apiosporina are fungi known for their unique capability to infect and live within the tissues of plants, often causing leaf spots and cankers. They primarily infect trees and shrubs in temperate regions. The most notable species, Apiosporina morbosa, causes black knot disease in fruit trees like cherry and plum, leading to the development of gnarled, black growths on branches. These fungi can significantly impact both wild and cultivated plant populations.
