Podospora er små sopper som vanligvis finnes på beitende dyrs avføring. De har unike sporer med vedheng som hjelper dem med å feste seg til gresset, og dermed spres gjennom dyrenes fordøyelse. Enkelte arter kan bryte ned cellulose og spiller en rolle i nedbrytningen. Podospora har blitt brukt i genetisk forskning på grunn av deres interessante livssykluser og paringssystemer.
