Pilophorus er en fascinerende gruppe lav kjent for sitt unike utseende som ligner små fyrstikker. Disse lavene finnes vanligvis i fjell- og arktiske områder, der de trives på steinete overflater. Et bemerkelsesverdig trekk ved pilophorus er deres symbiotiske forhold, hvor sopp og alger samarbeider for å overleve i barske miljøer.
