Dendrocollybia vokser ofte på råtnende treverk og er kjent for sine karakteristiske, forgrenede fruktlegemer. Disse soppene er spesialister på å bryte ned treverk og resirkulere næringsstoffer tilbake i økosystemet. En spesielt interessant fakta er at noen arter innen denne gruppen kan trives i habitater som er utfordrende for andre sopper, som høyalpine eller subalpine miljøer.
