Description

Chromocyphellaceae er en fascinerende familie av sopp innen Basidiomycota-divisjonen. Et bemerkelsesverdig medlem er Chromocyphella muscicola, som eksemplifiserer de unike egenskapene til denne familien. I motsetning til de fleste koppesopp, som tilhører ascomycetene, er medlemmer av chromocyphellaceae basidiomyceter. Disse soppene produserer bitte små, nedovervendte kopp-lignende strukturer som ikke er mer enn 1,5 mm brede. De finnes vanligvis voksende på levende trær i tilknytning til bryofytter. Til tross for deres beskjedne størrelse og sjeldenhet, gjør deres unike økologiske nisje og reproduktive strategi chromocyphellaceae til et fascinerende emne for mykologisk forskning.
