Description

Akanthomyces er en gruppe sopp kjent for sin parasittiske natur, som først og fremst angriper insekter og andre leddyr. De produserer ofte lange, slanke strukturer kalt synnemata, som bærer sporer. Noen arter i denne gruppen kan dramatisk endre oppførselen til sine insektverter, noe som fører til det som er kjent som "zombie-maur"-fenomenet. Akanthomyces spiller en rolle i naturlig skadedyrbekjempelse i ulike økosystemer.
