Cap

Cap 10-50 cm across, semicircular or irregularly kidney-shaped; red or reddish brown; surface lacquered. Flesh tough, whitish to creamy. Odour and taste not distinctive.

Pores whitish to pale brownish, 3-5 pores per mm, turn brown when bruised.
