Description

Umbilicaria er en fascinerende gruppe af laver kendt for deres modstandskraft og unikke udseende. De findes ofte på klipper i barske miljøer som bjergtoppe og arktiske regioner, og umbilicaria kan tåle ekstreme temperaturer og lange perioder med tørke. Deres flade, læderagtige tekstur gør dem i stand til at klamre sig tæt til klippeoverflader. Interessant nok er nogle arter inden for umbilicaria i stand til fotosyntese gennem deres symbiotiske forhold til alger, hvilket gør dem til essentielle komponenter i deres økosystemer.
