Description

Chromocyphellaceae er en interessant svampefamilie inden for Basidiomycota-afdelingen. Et bemærkelsesværdigt medlem er Chromocyphella muscicola, som eksemplificerer de unikke karakteristika ved denne familie. I modsætning til de fleste bægersvampe, som tilhører ascomyceterne, er medlemmerne af chromocyphellaceae basidiomyceter. Disse svampe producerer små, nedadvendte kop-lignende strukturer, der ikke er større end 1,5 mm i diameter. De findes typisk voksende på levende træer i forbindelse med bryofytter. På trods af deres beskedne størrelse og sjældenhed gør deres unikke økologiske niche og reproduktionsstrategi chromocyphellaceae til et fascinerende emne for mykologisk forskning.
