Velvet pax(Tapinella atrotomentosa) is most commonly found growing on conifer stumps. Notably, the mushroom produces several compounds that appear to deter insects, who consequently regard it as an undesirable food source. While it has been consumed by humans in the past, it is generally considered inedible and may in fact be poisonous. It should not be eaten.
