A species of Russulas, Also known as Dense-gilled russula
Reddening russula has densely packed gills. It is well distributed throughout Europe and into Asia. It has no distinctive smell and is not considered edible, especially because the fungus becomes tough and bitter the older it gets. Its scientific name, russula, comes from the dark-reddish hue of the cap.
